The Managing Moments Method
Because life does not follow your plan!
After thousands of moments, countless contributions from people in my networks, many small, well-defined projects, and daily work for many years, here is the Managing Moments Method in one page!
Moments are unexpected and unpredictable events that motivate us to start, modify, continue, and expand projects. Moments reveal new possibilities and make existing projects doable or not doable. Map your journey and share your story using your Managing moments journal.
When you experience a Moment, write Moments on an orange post-it. Paste the post-it on a notepaper and write a description of the moment. Add more moments to the notepaper as needed.
Moments spark Questions about the direction of our projects. For example, if we complete a micro-project (a short, well-defined project that is part of a long-term macro-project), we can ask: “What can I do next?” Write Propelling questions on a pink post-it. Paste the post-it on a notepaper and write your response to one or more propelling questions.
Write Capacities and Resources on a yellow post-it. Paste the post-it on a notepaper. Record people, skills, and resources that you have or need for the chosen project.
Write SMART goals on a green post-it. Paste the post-it on a notepaper. Record SMART goals for the chosen project.
Write Daily Activities on a blue post-it. Paste the post-it on a notepaper. Record daily activities and progress
The method captures the interplay of unpredictable and unexpected moments and systematic and orderly action.
